PREMIER LEAGUE
Lynn Stars 66 Redcar 27
THIS was all too easy for the Money Centre Stars on Wednesday, as they raced to their biggest win of the season.
The Premier League points were in the bag as early as the tenth heat, after Lynn had reeled off six 5-1 results in a row.
With the top two Kevin Doolan and Tomas Topinka untroubled as they scored maximums, supported by big scores down the order, it was a good pay night for the home side who moved into third place in the table.
Doolan: 15 point maximum
Just missing out was local rider Simon Lambert, fresh from his exploits at the weekend for the Great Britain's Young Lions team in the Under 21s World Championships in the Czech Republic.
Lambert was also unbeaten after four starts which earned him a Heat 15 call-up to partner Doolan, but he was just seen off for second place by ex-World Champion Gary Havelock who eased away after two tight laps.
Havelock had earlier dented the maximum hopes of Shaun Tacey and Rusty Harrison. His duel with Harrison in Heat 11, when out for a double score tactical ride, was easily the best of the meeting – Havelock making the gate and just holding off numerous challenges ending in a tight dash for the line.
Harrison had his revenge two races later, with an excellent cut-back on the second turn to dive under Havelock and join Doolan for a 5-1, Lynn's ninth in all.
At reserve John Oliver had something of a quiet night, but his Aussie team-mate Kozza Smith probably took the "most exciting rider" award after two excellent wins, a paid win – and a fall. Smith will be kicking himself, as he took a tumble in Heat 4 when he seemed likely to finish second behind Harrison.
Team manager Rob Lyon said: "With Kozza we are now getting a lot of positives. He's nearly there, not quite, and the way he is riding he is showing a lot of potential."
Lynn: Kevin Doolan 15 (5 rides), Shaun Tacey 7+3 (4 rides), Tomas Topinka 11+1 (4 rides), Simon Lambert 11+2 (5 rides), Rusty Harrison 10+1 (4 rides), John Oliver 4+1 (4 rides), Kozza Smith 8+1 (4 rides).
Redcar: Gary Havelock 12 (5 rides), rider replacement for Dan Giffard, James Grieves 4 (4 rides), Adam McKinna 0 (4 rides), Tyron Proctor 2+1 (4 rides), Josh Auty 7 (7 rides), Arlo Bugeja 2 (6 rides).
