Stars: not out of cup tie yet! 05.05.08

King’s Lynn ‘Money Centre’ Stars Club boss, Buster Chapman, has put a rally call out to fans and riders that his Stars are not going out of the KO cup without a fight. After the first leg last Monday night the Stars are trailing against the Reading Racers by 25 points, ‘It wasn’t a bad result considering the big hole we were left with after losing Kevin Doolan in his second race, it meant that in his 3 remaining races he could only be replaced by one of the reserves. Also after witnessing our 2 performances away from home this weekend at Edinburgh and Berwick I am confident that the whole team can pull together and achieve what most people have written us off to do!’ said Stars team manager, Rob Lyon.

The Stars fans will still be dreaming of a 4th consecutive KO Cup trophy, something that has never been achieved by any speedway club in the UK before. The Stars can take good heart from the fact that at the weekend Coventry did exactly what they are trying to do after qualifying for the final of the Elite League Craven Shield against all the odds. They lost the 1st leg at Poole by 24 points and press reports suggested that Poole had therefore already booked their place into the Final, Coventry had other ideas and put in an outstanding performance to win by 26 points and qualify for the final by 2 points. Another fact the Stars can take inspiration from is that the team has only lost once on aggregate in the past 3 seasons.

Stars co-promoter Jonathan Chapman has now returned from his annual break and is determined to do what he can to help his team get through to the next round, ‘what the team needs right now is as much support as possible, I want the fans to get right behind every single Stars rider in every single race and make as much noise as possible, to help do that we have subsidised the price of air horns for this week only, they will be offered to the fans for only £2 (limited to 1 per person), so I expect to sell out and hope to hear the place buzzing!’.

Kevin Doolan is still out of action for up to another 3 weeks with a trapped nerve in his back, the good news is the Stars are allowed a guest replacement in his place for all their meetings as he is the highest averaged rider in their team. The guest for this Wednesday will be confirmed on Tuesday but is likely to be a rider from the Elite League.

With all this taken into consideration it looks to be an exciting meeting ahead this Wednesday evening at 7:30pm, which is far from a forgone conclusion. It takes place at the Norfolk Arena, Saddlebow Road, King’s Lynn (01553 771111). Admission prices are Adults £12, Concessions £8, 12-15yrs £4 and all kids 11 and under are free.
