Stars up for title assault

‘We start our title assault right here and now!’ they are the words from team manager, Rob Lyon, leading the King’s Lynn ‘Money Centre’ Stars into action this coming Wednesday. Newcastle Diamonds are the visitors in only the Stars 3rd home league meeting of the season. ‘We are now playing catch up after having so few a meetings, Somerset and Workington have really gathered some pace and have 16 league points compared to our 8, we must not let them get away, the team is good enough so lets get it together and show the rest of the league we mean business!’ said Rob Lyon.

The Diamonds have always been good visitors with Josef Franc one of the fastest away riders on the Saddlebow Road circuit. George Stancl also makes his return to the Diamonds team from injury. Jason King is having his best season to date and only 2 seasons back he lead Mildenhall to within a whisker of beating the Stars at home. Jerran Hart is Newcastles’ newest signing and was one of the top riders at the recent Under 21 Qualifiers at Kings Lynn. Stars promoter, Jonathan Chapman, says this meeting will be a classic ‘I have always enjoyed Newcastle visiting us and looking at their team I believe they will pose us a problem, hopefully we will get the win but I don’t think it will be easy!’ The Stars are at full strength with Kevin Doolan making a successful return from injury 2 weeks ago.

This week also sees the launch of a pioneering new initiative. With the cost of fuel still rising the club have decided to help fans meet other fans from their area so they can make arrangements to travel to home meetings together and save money. The programme is called ‘Stars Fans Travelling Together’ (SFTT). On Wednesday nights there will be a member of staff near the turnstiles, and any fans that are interested in joining all they need to do is register their name, town/city they live in and their contact telephone number. The club will then match everyone up and help put them in contact with each other. Co promoter, Buster Chapman, thinks it’s a great opportunity for fans to take part ‘the fans have nothing to lose but all to gain, a lot of fans travel long distances to get here every week and this will not only save them money but it will probably make them new friends who they can talk speedway with on the journey here and home again. One other positive is that we are also encouraging people to save the environment, speedway uses the cleanest fuel in the world and now we are even helping our fans to use less fuel on their journeys to watch the sport’.

Wednesday nights racing starts at 7:30pm at the Norfolk Arena. Admission prices are Adults £12, Concessions £8, 12-15yrs £4 and all kids 11 and under are free.
