Topinka leads Stars to swift double
PREMIER LEAGUE
Redcar 43, King's Lynn 47
Lynn clinched a notable Premier League double on Teeside last night.
Redcar managed to force a last heat decider after Rob Lyon's men had looked in cruise control again following Wednesday's 66-27 Norfolk Arena romp.
Tomas Topinka
Bears' talisman Gary Havelock flew past Tomas Topinka and Kevin Doolan in the finale but Lynn's top guns settled for the minor points to propel Lynn into the top three.
Doolan's searing heat five track record was a highlight after James Grieves had initially jumped the tapes. Lynn's bottom end Aussie duo also fired on visiting shale with John Oliver (paid seven) and Kozza Smith (paid eight) anchoring the Stars' second away league win of the campaign.
Doolan looked in the mood for another faultless display when he headed Havelock in the opener 24 hours after his five ride maximum at Saddlebow. Smith hit the deck after tangling with Josh Auty on his brand new engine. Oliver minimised the damage to split the Bears' reserves in the re-run with Smith confined to a watching brief from the pits.
Topinka blazed from the traps to dictate the next with Simon Lambert coolly out-pacing Adam McKinna. The battling Ty Proctor fended off marauding compatriot Rusty Harrison in early heat four sparring - Smith pocketing an easy point with Arlo Bugeja's engine failure.
Doolan's blistering heat five flag maintained Lynn's slender advantage. Oliver took emergency action to avoid McKinna exiting turn four as Havelock kept Redcar in the hunt. Oliver was re-deployed in a swift reserve foray when team mate Lambert was excluded for shredding the tapes on the start line in heat seven.
Lynn's grand slam winner gated into Topinka's slipstream but Proctor poured on the power to split the visiting pair in the final yards. Smith defended for dear life to hold up Bugeja as Tacey banged in a punishing mid meeting max. Bugeja dipped inside Oliver but Harrison was too cute as Redcar probed for an instant reply with heats running out.
Lambert tumbled after clipping Auty from the gate before Havelock trapped in the re-run to down Topinka. Proctor mugged Doolan on the line behind Tacey with Lynn nailed on for another max. The young Bear's tactical sub effort bit the dust when he slide out on turn four in the next - Grieves gamely holding the Stars' duo at bay. Havelock and the over worked Proctor outsmarted Doolan for a priceless home max to grab Redcar a late lifeline. Smith powered from the tapes in the penultimate heat - Auty pinching third after Proctor held up Lambert in the rear.Redcar needed an unlikely max in the finale to pinch a draw but Topinka and Doolan had too much nous for Grieves.
Bears: Havelock 14, McKinna 0, Grieves 10, Proctor 11+1, Auty 5+2, Bugeja 3. Stars: Doolan 9+1, Tacey 7, Topinka 12, Lambert 2+1, Harrison 6, Oliver 5+2, Smith 6+2.
